I agree. I picked one up for $8 from a forum post and it’s been great. I’m just waiting to add a tarp and mosquito net to my setup.

Where can I find a compatible bug net?

Wise Owl Outfitters and other brands offer separate nets to enhance your hammock setup. There are also several canopy options available.

What’s your budget for expensive? If you’re just lounging, Wise Owl is sufficient. For sleeping, make sure the hammock fits you properly. This chart helps determine the right size. You need a hammock that’s strong enough for your weight, typically at least 11 feet long. Include a structural ridgeline. A complete sleeping setup requires suspension, a tarp, an underquilt or sleeping pad, a bug net, and a quilt or sleeping bag. For long hikes, lightweight gear is crucial, such as down quilts and a light hammock that supports your weight. If your budget allows, a $100 Dream Wingspan hammock offers great value with customization options. Onewind is also recommended in the hammock camping community; it’s $75 on Amazon and often comes bundled with other gear, though the quilts are heavy due to synthetic material. For someone shorter, a Jeff Myers hammock for $69 could be ideal, available at his Etsy shop, which also sells lightweight hammock gear. For tarps, ensure it’s as long as your hammock; a sil poly tarp is preferable as it absorbs less water than sil nylon. If budget is tight after getting a hammock and suspension, start with an underinflated sleeping pad for insulation. Consider DIY projects like making your own underquilt, with kits available online. Hang Tight Quilts offers affordable quilt sets. Only buy Hammock Gear quilts on sale, never at full price. I’ve gradually upgraded my setup over the years. Started with a basic hammock and rainfly, now I use a Sparrow from Dream Hammocks and a Dutchware rainfly. I even made my own quilts for about $140, which have been great even in colder weather.

I’ve been using a $25 Covacure hammock from Amazon for about 50 nights. It comes with an integrated bug net. While it’s nothing special, it’s as good as most others, which I find generally interchangeable. I had to get longer straps due to the large trees in my area.

Onewind offers some of the best budget kits for both camping and actual sleeping.

Believe it or not, Harbor Freight has a decent one that even includes the tree straps.

The Sub6 from Eno is a great value, especially considering how pricey other gear can be.
