Experian is going to cost my fiancé, and I, a home

It’s a very long story but I’ll try to make it short. About 9 months back, my gf was involved in a data breach without her knowing. Soon after that, someone in Maryland tried purchasing a vehicle at a Chevy dealership in her name. She immediately froze her credit so there wouldn’t be any further attempts. Our mortgage broker asked her to unfreeze them so we can continue in the process. Transunion, and Equifax took 2 minutes on the phone. For almost a month now, Experian has been unwilling to help her. She is sent in circles, being transferred department-to-department until eventually they end the call. Sent all required identification information, still nothing. Tonight we called and filed a report with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Unfortunately, the company (Experian) has 60 days to respond to the report. You know damn well they won’t respond until the last day they legally can. So we’re not looking at a resolution for another 3 months…. It is insanity. I don’t believe that side of my family is going to wait for that, and will end up putting the house on the market. It’ll sell immediately. Does anyone have ANYTHING they can offer in terms of help? We’d both appreciate it more than you could imagine. Thank you!

Yeah, find a new lender that knows what they are doing. We use the middle score of the 3 scores. Assuming this is a conventional loan- Fannie Mae allows us to use the lowest of two scores if one bureau is still frozen. Because worst case that would be the middle score. Here is the math

@Shiloh
This!! Your lender doesn’t need experian!!

@Shiloh
Conventional loan, yes. I work in Cannabis, so we would not qualify for FHA, etc.

I’m a lender and your main post was the most ridiculous thing I’ve read. Tell your lender to close with two scores! This is crazy. Why did the lender put you through all this stress?

Then there you go- she doesn’t need to unfreeze that bureau and you are ok as-is. What state?

@Shiloh
PA

What type of mortgage are you trying to get? (Conventional, FHA or VA) Last month, I help a client close a mortgage with similar situation. We only could get 2 out of 3 credit scores - due to one of the bureaus not being unfrozen. She had to write a letter explaining she couldn’t get the 3rd one unlocked after multiple tries. Ask your lender if they can move forward with just 2 scores. It can be done.

@Val
I will tomorrow. I have a call scheduled with them. Thank you!

Only need 2 scores they will use lower score.

You can literally download an app and unlock your credit in like 2 seconds…

Not with fraud involved. They got into her account and changed the email, phone number and recovery access.

@Bevin
True. Sometimes there is a deeper freeze than surface level. I don’t know the terms of these levels but it’s not always that easy…

If there’s only 2 scores the lender takes the lower of the 2 — so you’re completely fine … not sure who is telling you otherwise

I can do it online in 2 seconds… is she not able to?

You can do it online is 30 seconds. I do that all the time.

I know this doesn’t add any value to your problem, but I am curious what breach it was if you have any idea?

What state are you in?

So if I freeze only 1 credit bureau, then could someone steal my identity if they get access to the other 2 and buy a house?

Find a hungry loan officer. They are the ones that help you through this process. Doesn’t sound like they are helping or willing to
